The "New Ford Car," identified as the Model A, was first placed on
exhibition in the Empire Room of the New York Waldorf on December
2, 1927. Orders far exceeded the supply. By mid-1928 output was up
to 4,000 cars per day, and still was not meeting demand. November
1928 production reached 6,435 cars per day. Throughout 1929, output
increased, and by June 1930 production had increased to 9,200 cars
per day, which appears to be the peak of Model A production.
For 1928, Ford offered 8 styles of passenger car bodies: Cabriolet,
Tudor Sedan, Fordor Sedan, Coupe, Sport Coupe, Phaeton, Roadster, and
Roadster Pickup. Three truck styles were offered: Cab/Express,
Cab/Stake, and Cab/Platform.
By 1929, different car and truck models were being produced. These
were the Phaeton, Roadster, Business Coupe, Standard Coupe, Sports
Coupe, Tudor Sedan, Fordor/2 Window, Fordor/3 Window, Town Sedan,
Town Car, Cabriolet, Station Wagon, Taxi Cab, Open Pickup, Closed
Pickup, Deluxe Deliver, Panel Delivery, and AA Panel Delivery.
In 1930, a Deluxe Phaeton was added. In 1931, the last year of the
Model A, Ford was feeling the full blow of the Depression. Ford
reduced prices in January 1931. Sales continued to decline as word
of a "new 1932" car circulated. Finally on March 9, 1932, the
introduction of the 1932 Ford put an end to Henry's Lady, the Ford
Model A.
