1962 brought the arrival of the "new size" Fairlane, generally accepted as an intermediate size car. It was available as a 4-door Sedan, 2-door Hardtop, and 4-door Station Wagon, with a 500 model and a 500 Sport Coupe. 1963 saw the introduction of two new Fairlane body styles. These were a 2-door Fairlane 500 and a 4-door Station Wagon available in three versions.

Fairlanes were modestly facelifted for 1964, and their tiny rear fins were eliminated. By 1965 Fairlane was in the last year of its original 1962 design, and larger engines were available. Ford introduced an all-new Fairlane capable of handling any big-block then available. A new GT model was introduced, and a new 500 Convertible series.

1966 Fairlanes had a clean, crisp, and contemporary design, and it was a sensational sales year, with over 317,000 produced. The 1967 Fairlane received only detail refinements such as trim, badge, and moulding shuffling. Engineering changes were minimal, and production fell to 238,668. 1968 saw the introduction of the new Fairlane/Torino, and it was a real champ in the sales race, setting a record at over 372,000 cars. The 1969 Fairlane and Torino were appreciably unaltered. The Cobra no-frills muscle car was a highly popular choice, and lived up to its ready-for-action look on the dragstrip. Changes for 1970 were evolutionary, and was actually a tasteful facelift of the '69 design.

1970 was the last year for Fairlane, and the name was retired from Ford's U.S. lineup. In 1971 the middle series intermediate line was called the Torino 500. The 71 Torino series was little changed from 1970, and involved a new split grille and some minor trim shuffling. 1972 saw a visibly changed, all-new Torino, which is not covered by this catalog.
