Regular tapered seat lug nuts do work with American Racing Torq-Thrust and Legendary wheels, but due to the added thickness of the aluminum, as compared to original steel wheels, the contact area between the lug nut and threaded stud is reduced. For extra security, or if your ride is making some serious power, this type of lug nut gives you the best of both worlds. They have the 60 degree tapered seat to keep your wheel centered, and a 0.33" long/0.61" wide shank which increases the contact surfaces dramatically. Each one is cold-forged steel for strength, and chrome plated for beauty. You also get four valve stems with chrome caps and decorative sleeves.  Even if you don't need them for this installation they are a standard size, so you can use them for another vehicle.


NOTE:  Some older 2-Piece Torq-Thrust wheels have slightly smaller lug nut holes.  To use these lug nuts a 5/8" drill bit will need to be run through them.  A drill-press is recommended.


Why do you need lug nuts like these?  If you're planning on putting modern aluminum wheels under an older vehicle, especially one from the early 70's or before, wheel stud length can be an issue. These older cars usually have shorter wheel studs because they originally came with thin steel wheels.

For safety, the thread engagement of a wheel stud into the lug nut must be equal to at least the diameter of the stud. Based on that a 7/16-20 stud would need 7/16 in. engagement, or about 9 full turns of the lug nut; a 1/2-20 stud would need 1/2 in. engagement, or 10 full turns of a lug nut.

If your wheel studs are too short, longer studs are always a solution. An easier option for wheels with conical seats would be to use ET Style lug nuts. These lug nuts have the same 60 degree conical seat plus a small 0.33" long shank that will fit into most aftermarket wheels. This equates to about 6 additional full turns of thread engagement, which will usually allow for safe installation of the wheels.

These spindles were obsoleted long ago by Ford and have become increasingly expensive and extremely difficult to find. Our team started with a set of used but excellent condition Ford originals to create 3D scans.  These were used for CAD modeling and then double checked against original Ford blueprints. No corners were cut on this critical component.  They are constructed from forged ASTM 5140 grade steel, a protective black e-coating is applied, and all mounting surfaces are precision machined. Special care is taken to ensure bearing tolerances are identical to Ford's. For an extra measure of safety and durability, the entire spindle gets heat treated, and the bearing surface is treated with additional induction hardening.
