The Bucket List

Morgan-Freeman-Bucket-ListThe Bucket List. Remember that movie from back in ’07 with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman? They team up to do a bunch of wild and wonderful stuff they’ve always wanted to do before they die. There’s more to it than that, but that’s the gist of the story. One of the cool “car guy” scenes in that flick involves Jack and Morgan’s characters hot rodding around a track in a couple of muscle cars. It’s great watching those two tackle everything on their bucket lists, as their time draws near. You really come away from this movie thinking, “Whatever it is, do it before it’s too late.”

I don’t mean to sound maudlin here– on the contrary! I want to put a fire under you to actually do the things you’ve always thought about doing. Always fantasized about pulling the financial trigger on that sports car? How about heading out on the Hot Rod Power Tour? Or just to a drag strip? Or even something simpler – like finally getting to one of the huge car shows at Carlisle? (I can’t tell you the number of guys I know – hardcore car guys – who have never been to a Carlisle event.) How about going to see your favorite “new” car being built at an assembly plant? Or attending a NASCAR race? The list is endless, and it doesn’t all have to involve cars…

I’ve got a fair sized collection of signs, paintings, sports collectibles, etc. that are all packed up safe and sound in boxes in a bedroom closet. Super cool stuff, but do I ever see it? No. We live in a three-bedroom apartment and I keep thinking “someday we’ll buy that house, and I’ll have that man cave to display it all.” And I probably will, but in the meantime, all those fun “toys” of mine stay put. I just need to clean up that third “catch-all” bedroom and make it my man cave. I’ve been telling myself this for the past two years, so I just need to buck up and finally do it.

Have I inspired you? I hope so! I’d love to hear your thoughts on this subject. What did you finally get around to accomplishing? Stories (and photos) are always welcome. Use the comments section below!
