Ignition coils transform the battery's low voltage to the thousands of volts needed to create the spark which ignites the fuel. When a coil goes bad, you're stranded. In addition, not everyone is looking for a stock coil replacement. They want a high output ignition coil that will give their engine the voltage it needs.
